The much – awaited celebration of the 75th anniversary of the premier college in Ikorodu Division of Lagos State, Southwest, Nigeria, Oriwu College Ikorodu now, Oriwu Senior and Junior Model Colleges, is slated to commence in September.
The milestone celebration is scheduled to hold between Friday, September 27 and Saturday, October 5, 2024.
In a statement released by the Board of Trustees (BOT) and National Executive Council (NEC) of the Oriwu College Old Students Association of Nigeria (OCOSAN) and the Oriwu at 75 Anniversary Planning Committee, it was said that the celebration will commence on Friday, September 27, with a special Jumat Service at the Oriwu College Mosque.
On the same day, there will be anniversary tree planting, an initiative to significantly mark the anniversary.
Walk for Fitness/Class Sets’ Day (social interaction) follows on Saturday, September 28, 2024, and on Sunday, September 29, there will be a special Church Service and another round of anniversary tree planting session within the school premises.
During the Walk for Fitness, old and current students will be embarking on a procession round major roads within the Ikorodu township, and visiting important places that had hosted the school at different times before it was finally move to its present location which is the permanent site.
Monday, September 30, is dedicated to visitations to the palaces of the traditional rulers – Ayangbure, Adeboruwa and Sekumade.
A Day with the current students/unveiling of the 75th anniversary project is slated for Wednesday, October 2. The event is sheduled to hold at the college hall.
The grand finale of the 75th anniversary celebration (dinner and award) is slated for Saturday, October 5, at the Ikorodu Town Hall.
Oriwu College was established in May 1949, and clocked 40 on May 29, this year. The premier college, has, over the years, produced many great and eminent individuals who have contributed significantly to the development of Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, Nigeria and humanity in general.
The school has also, over the years, achieved and sustained academic excellence and outstanding achievements in socio – cultural and other aspects of education, at the Local Government, District, State and National levels.
